When I first saw the King Kong trailer, I was as always a bit skeptic. When I found out it has some romance, I thought the movie will be barely satisfactory. A big and ugly gorilla falls in love with a blondie. One of the most idiotic things I have ever heard. However, when the news of the director; Peter Jackson arrived to my ears, I wasn't as cynical. Jackson is one of my favorite directors, if he can pull off Lord of the Rings, then he can somehow miraculously make King Kong a decent movie.
The first half hour of the movie is somewhat slow on getting started. Once they reach the island however, it is awesome, only after Kong's first appearance. Kong's first appearance with the blonde, alone, is just so ridiculous! He had the blonde in one hand and was swinging her around although she was a doll, with all those gorilla noises. That what was happening for two minutes. I put my hand on my face and thought Jackson was directing the scene while smoking a bong. After that, things changed for the better.
There was a team sent to rescue the dasmel in distress, was just great. I won't spoil everything, but when they were in the pit, and how the Cook's last stand with his machete as he slowly got devoured was just...soo...aahh great. It was genius how that was done. Kong taking on three T-Rexs' was a great fight scene and was more hardcore than I thought it'd be. I thought it would be Kong doing wimpy slaps with his powerful hands. But no, he literally breaks his foes in several places. Especially the last part (which I won't spoil) made the auidence go "OOOHHH!"
There was more scenes with Kong and the blonde bonding. The next one with the blonde pulling some acrobatics and trying to impress Kong is just as idiotic if not more idiotic as the scene I mentioned before. However, after Kong saves blondie's life from the Rexs' you actually feel the bond of friendship between them both. Especially when they are in the city, their last few moments before the Army intervenes. It was actually a bit sad when Kong died. The last line said by Jack Black suited the ending very well.
"It was beauty that killed the beast."
I think those words meant that Kong gave up fighting. Because he realized it was futile to be with his girlfriend, in the world they live in. Or something like that, let me know how you interpret it.
I give the movie an
8.5
What kept it from a ten was some cheesy moments.
I highly recommend you see this movie. Peter Jackson has really worked his magic into this one.
P.S. I hope my movie review was decent. I don't think it was good as I made it out to be.
